My name is Daiya Kowalski and I am currently a junior in Lake Shore High school, in New York. I have always strived to maintain good grades while being a well rounded student athlete for our school. I have been on the honor roll since my freshman year. English and Science have always been my strong-suit so I am taking AP literature and next year I will be taking AP biology. My goal for the future is to pursue my passion in college as an elementary education teacher or environmental science and be able to participate in a strong track team that will continue to help me grow and improve my abilities.
I have participated in sports my entire life, from gymnastics to soccer and track and field. In the 2022 season I participated in indoor track and outdoor track and over the summer I was in a summer track club. I pride myself in being dedicated, hard working and consistently putting in the time and effort. My consistent discipline and dedication has led to my success in my 100m and 200m times. My freshman year I ran a 13.5 then to sophomore year running a 13.00 and in the 200m I went from a 28.5 to a 27.3 making small improvements. I was a sectional qualifier finishing top 8 in my division for the 100 meter. I was awarded the MVP award as a sophomore and led the team in points. I am a team player that tries to help in any way possible, I have thrown discus, run the 100, 200, 400 and many relays. As I started my indoor track season a few weeks ago I was voted as a team captain, which is something I take take to heart.
This 2023/2024 season my goals are to run a 12.7 in the 100m and a 25.00 in the 200m. I have dedicated myself to the weight room for several years and it has helped me gain confidence and improved my overall attitude in sports.
In addition to track I am a member of my varsity soccer team. This year I helped the team set the best record since 2004. In order to help the team I was asked to play both offense and defense depending on the type of team we played, although it was difficult at times, it made me a better player overall. At the end of the season I was awarded the character award for soccer which made me very proud.
One thing that I am most proud of and grateful for it getting the opportunity to job shadow a elementary teacher. Finding that I love working with little kids and doing something that has a purpose inspires me every day to work hard, help others and to be a better person. Every student has a different story and I hope that in the future I am able to have a positive impact in people's lives.
a positive impact in their lives.
