Picking up a javelin for the first time was one of the biggest moments of my track and field career. Up until that point, the only events I had ever competed in were long distance running events. I enjoyed running and liked the events, but I still didn't feel like they were the right events for me. I wanted something different, an event that would push me to both my physical and mental limits. For me, javelin was that event.
Javelin not only takes physical strength and effort but also takes a lot of thinking. It can be challenging at times but that just makes me want to work harder at it. The first year I competed at the AAU Junior Olympics in javelin, I did not throw as well as I wanted to. However, instead of letting that get to me, I used it as motivation for the next season. I worked hard every day to train for the next years' Junior Olympics and my hard work paid off. I threw a personal best and placed 6th overall. I was proud, but I still wasn't satisfied. I wanted to continue to better myself and to train harder so I would be able to do even better in the next season.
In addition to my track and field career, throwing javelin has been one of the biggest moments of my life in general. Javelin has given me the drive and determination to do my best, not only in sports, but also in my studies and through the challenges I face everyday. I have become more willing to work hard and to make sacrifices in order to do my very best. I know I have what it takes to excel both athletically and academically at your school and I know I will continue to push myself to be the best that I can be for both myself and for your team!
