Growing up, I’ve always been an incredibly driven and determined athlete. I tried out several events in track and field before I found my way to high jump. I remember being the last to try out because the bar was intimidating for someone as short as me. I worked up the courage and cleared it on my first try with ease. Through this experience I've learned that part of finding success is doing things that scare you.
Junior year was the highlight of my high school career thus far. I originally wasn’t going to attend the Central League Championship, but decided to go for the practice. I had a rough start to the meet with multiple misses at starting heights. I decided right then that I was going to change my outlook and attitude toward the competition and work through this challenge. As the bar got higher, I cleared with ease and somehow managed to break my own school record twice in one day. I won the high jump competition overall that day. Although I never had a jumps coach in high school, I'm glad I had coaches that were supportive and followed me to every meet. I believe I have the mindset, commitment, and capability to compete at a college level through my many years as a student athlete. I believe that with the right opportunity and a coach who can help me learn new skills, that I can be great asset to a college roster.
