Narrowly missing a trip to the state track meet by just one height my sophomore year was the turning point of my pole vault career. That experience really gave me the desire to do whatever I could to punch my ticket to the state track meet the next year. Unfortunately, the pandemic cut my junior season in half and I was told I couldn’t even practice at school anymore. I decided I needed to find somewhere to practice, so I convinced my parents it would be worth it financially to find a private club/coach. The unlimited program at the private club I had found had me driving an hour each way three times a week. I also had to drive four hours each way every other weekend to compete in meets. Adjusting to the new environment and new coach proved to be difficult. It took me several meets to hit my stride again. As an athlete this was one of the best things to happen to me, because I’ve learned to adapt to different coaching styles and environments.
