Personal Statement

At my future college or university I look forward to further developing my interests and knowledge in science, art, Spanish, and mathematics on a broad basis, or more specifically ecology and environmental science. As mediums for my education, I am interested in field study, research, and study abroad opportunities that do not conflict with the competitive seasons. Athletically I am searching for a supportive and competitive atmosphere. I aspire to maintain a balance of breakthroughs and continual improvement in order to successfully compete at the NCAA National level. What I love the most about running is the competition and the team. I long for the strong bonds built with coaches and teammates while continuing to push myself and the team to the next level. I strive to bring a sense of focus, work ethic, and determination to the program while also being an encouraging and optimistic presence. I seek to understand the science behind the training, and to have open communication with my coaches and fellow runners. I am willing to do what it takes in order to improve and best contribute to the program and am determined to follow the thoughtfully constructed training plan to the detail. For example I am often the last person to leave practice because I am committed to completing all of the core exercises and stretches. Although I find joy in all forms of running, I love the added challenge and variety that cross country, steeplechase, and trail running bring. With much anticipation and excitement I eagerly await this opportunity for growth and contribution to something bigger than myself.
