I was a competitive gymnast until age 13, with a grueling practice schedule that was almost like a part time job. From my time in gymnastics, I have the value of hard work and determination sketched in my heart. The spirit of perseverance to climb back on that beam, bars, floor or vault after failing is still in me.
I made the switch to pole vault so that I could learn something new and continue to compete, but in a sport that allowed more balance in my life. I love that learning pole vault shares the body mastery of gymnastics but with a level of technicality that always keeps me thinking.
