I competed in my first track meet when I was nine years old. My expectations were not very high since I had never held a shot put, much less had any practice. I ended up going home with a blue ribbon and have been competing ever since.
I have learned I am capable of more than I thought possible when I truly believe I can compete. Hearing things like, “Are you just throwing?” can get in your head, but I have not allowed the words of others to define me or my success. My freshman year I made it to Regionals. However, I left that meet in third place. I also left with a new determination, knowing it was possible to be a real competitor. Sophomore year, with a new confidence, while juggling three track events and varsity softball, I advanced to the State Meet. Covid stole my track season junior year, but it didn’t steal my drive to keep moving forward. I would love to compete at the next level and hope to find a college that can support both my academic and athletic goals. Competing in four varsity sports all four years, I enjoy being a part of a team with a competitive spirit and the drive to be better than the day before. I know there is a college where I can add value as I strive to succeed in my events while supporting my teammates in theirs.
I learned at a young age that life is short. Due to the loss of two close friends way before their time, I know that each day is a chance to better myself, support others, and act NOW to make my dreams a reality. So now’s the time! I am ready for a new adventure at a new level and will make the most of any opportunity I am given.
