I began my running career at an older age than most. There are no stories about how great I’ve been since kindergarten, or how I was “born” to run. The truth is during the COVID pandemic, I was feeling a little down, so I filmed a video of myself doing my first half mile. I almost died (as a figure of speech) but everyday since then Ive wanted to runner better than that day. Every morning when I wake up, I strive to run better than the day before. I did not just set running goals. I made the conscience decision that I wanted to be an athlete. So there I was living, eating, and sleeping like an athlete. Next thing I knew I turned out to be a pretty decent runner. “Next thing I knew” was actually a ton of hard work, aching muscles, with a few disappointments. I did not compartmentalize those negative moments, they were just part of things that happen to athletes.
My natural born talent shines academically. I have a deep desire to learn and constantly push myself so I feel challenged. I’ve always worked hard and been diligent because I am “gifted”. I was given that term in kindergarten, it became part of who I am and that has helped me excel academically.
That is who I am. I am not smart and fast. I am gifted and an athlete. Neither I will ever take for granted. My efforts in these area have allowed me to grow and continue to progress daily. I think can be an be an excellent addition to any team with my motivated and tenacious character, along with my coachable and adaptable personality.
