Hi, my name is Mercedi Lapacek and I’m a senior at Poynette High School (WI). Growing up on an apple orchard, I have learned the value of hard work and I have implemented it in all aspects of my life including track. Track has become one of the best parts of high school for the past 2 years that I have done it. I love having the opportunity to compete to beat not only other competitors, but my own records day after day. I developed significantly from my first year of track to the second ... more than my personal records. At my first regional meet (my sophomore year), I was ranked 2nd going into the high jump competition. I knew that I had to preform or my season would be over. Unfortunately, I let that pressure get to me and I had one of the worst meets of my season. This past season I was put in the same situation however, I embraced the pressure as an opportunity and ended up being regional champion. I learned that the pressure isn't something to be scared of and shy away from, but something to be excited about. My dream is to continue my track career in college.
