Hello!! My name is Oyin Opawumi, and I am hoping to continue my passion for volleyball and elevate my level of play to the collegiate level.
I am a 5’9 powerhouse on the outside and a smart defensive specialist with a lot of experience. What I might lack in height I make up with grit . I am from El Paso Texas, but I do my schooling at a boarding school named Cate in Carpinteria California. At Cate, I was selected to play on the varsity team for both my freshman and sophomore year. I was able to provide a sense of stability for our team on the court. Playing whatever role called upon by my coach. That further enhanced my leadership skill. The fall of my sophomore year, I was elected by all my teammates to be one of two captains
I currently play for Santa Barbara Volleyball Club on the 16’s team. I play outside and defensive specialist positions, but I have played every position there is in volleyball from libero to middle blocker. I believe this has made me a very well rounded and flexible player. In my opinion, This range of skills I have acquired has also improved my court awareness ability and volleyball IQ.
My significant accomplishments include making first-team all league in the Tri-Valley division for both my freshman and sophomore year. Along with my selection in first-team all league, I have been to the Girls Junior National Championship 3 Times in a row. My team and I won the Suncity regional championships two times in a row, and we got second place the third time ensuring our place at the highly sought after tournament.
I am hopeful for a chance to play at the collegiate level. As a sophomore, I am excited for the future and the growth of my volleyball skills. I am a dedicated teammate whether on or off the court. I believe my versatility on the court, my leadership skills, and outright excitement, zeal and love for the sport would make me an immense asset to any team. Lastly, I would like to thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile and learn a little bit about my volleyball career and me as a person.
