At age 8 I started playing the sport that has helped shaped me into who I am today. I love volleyball, I love playing volleyball and I love watching volleyball. Whenever there's a volleyball near me, I can't not pick it up and start bumping. It has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Playing volleyball has given me the opportunity to develop skills that I use on and off the court including leadership, grit, the ability to work hard and be a good teammate. The lessons I've learned through various challenges on the court, with teammates and occasionally with coaches, have helped me grow as a person off the court and have allowed me to push myself to be the best athlete I can be.
I have played for Sunshine Volleyball Club for nine years now. I've also played on my school teams for the last eight years. From the very beginning, I have loved to hit, so naturally, I chose to play outside hitter. At 5'7", it was and is challenging. Still, I have been a starter on all my teams - school and club. I've had to work extremely hard to keep that position. Because I am shorter, I needed to be able to hit in different ways than my teammates. I learned to work around and with a larger block and for the most part I've learned to be successful by pushing and applying myself to excel at something that I am incredibly passionate about.
I decided to switch to libero/DS because I knew it would give me more options on the court, to continue playing competitively, and to keep hitting where I can.
It would be an incredible experience to play in college, at a school that challenges me both academically and athletically. I am fortunate enough to be at a high school that does both and provides opportunities in both areas. For example, I have just now started playing water polo and am on Varsity. It's a difficult sport and I am still learning, but I enjoy it. Over my nine years of volleyball, I have learned the importance of commitment, leadership, teamwork and communication skills and will carry these into a college career. I believe that my past experiences, as well as those acquired skills, will make me a good fit for and help me to contribute to your program.
