Hi, I am Devin and super excited to be part of your recruiting process! My email is [email protected] should you want to contact me.
VB background:My volleyball career started out in 6th grade when I chose volleyball to be my fall sport. Though at the time it was overshadowed by tennis, which I was playing competitively, it was a fun activity that I could do with my friends. During 7th and 8th grade I began participating in club volleyball and helped lead my team to undefeated seasons both years. Success breeds motivation and suddenly I felt more committed to volleyball than tennis, particularly with all the disruption from COVID, leading me to switch my primary sport in 9th grade. Volleyball now has my full love and attention. I moved to a fantastic new club and Coach that are committed to growing me. I am excited to engage in the recruiting process this year so that I can continue living my newfound passion for volleyball In college. While I am primarily cast as a 6 position hitter, playing OH as my primary role, this year I was asked to be second hands on Varsity. I have found that I quite enjoy this role as well. I have started to help with setting with my new club team. Given that Coach Dina and Coach Carol were both excellent setters, I would like to take advantage and strengthen my setting skills. Given my height, strong tipping/hitting skills and general familiarity with playing at net, I feel that with some focus on setting I can be additive on this front as well.
Me presently: I decided to rejoin EVA to start up a new U17 Elite team. My club team last year was the EVA 18 Elite Open team, many were graduating seniors. I was honored to be part of the starting lineup as a sophomore. This year I want to play with my age group. In school I am taking 4 AP and an Honors class to step up the challenge. As a result I will only be doing Varsity tennis with my Volleyball, despite having made Varsity Squash. I had achieved head masters distinction award, high honors award and hope to continue my academic record. I participate in community service, board game club, full court peace and robotics club. During the summer I have been a teaching assistant volunteer for middle school students for the Horizons organization. I was thrilled to have been offered a full paying job next summer after getting strong reviews from the students and faculty. Being able to help motivate kids academically was really gratifying in a different way.
Hobbies: Outside of school and activities, it is my great passion to perfect my potato imitation while sitting on the couch while watching movies. I also enjoy reading, drawing, puzzling and running (all calm activities so that I can save up my pent up rage which may later be unleashed at my opponents on the court). To make up for my desire for a pet ( both parents are allergic) I also help out at school and at my local Petco to take care of abandoned pets/cats waiting for adoption. This is also very therapeutic and relaxing for me.
