My name is Mia Saavedra, I will graduate in 2023 hopefully with my AA from Hillsborough community college because I am currently taking dual enrollment classes. I am the setter for my 16 OPEN team at FEVA. My mom and dad both played volleyball and we have had a beach court in our backyard as long as I can remember. When they first started making me play I kind of hated it because I was forced to learn but as I got better, I couldn't get enough of it. My mom always wanted me to be a setter like her so of course I chose to be a hitter. My 8th grade year my team did not have a setter so I had to step in and set. I loved it and now I never want to run a 6-2 and hit some, I love running a 5-1. I want to play volleyball in college at a high level (D1 or top 20 D2), I am not sure where yet and everyone keeps telling me I should know where I want to go but I just don't. I am pretty chill on the court but I really hate losing. I love beach too, it's more of a control thinking game where indoor for me is a power game and only a thinking game for me as the setter and maybe the libero has to think too. I know I love it because I get goosebumps sometimes when the game is close. As far as academics go, I don't really like school but I do get good grades. I stress when I have to take tests but I always turn in all my work and I am pretty organized. I haven't figured out what I want to major in but the fields of medicine, mental health and astrology are very interesting for me. I am the one in my house in charge of getting splinters out and fixing up all the cuts, my mom freaks out, my dad doesn't have patience and for some reason everyone trusts me. I feel like this year one day I am just going to figure out what it is I want to do. For right now, I want play, train and get good grades so my parents stay off my back.
