Aloha,
My name is Naiya Beymer and I am currently a junior at Konawaena HighSchool in Kona, Hawaii. I have always been someone who likes to be challenged and appreciates the rewards of hard work. As I approach the end of high school and prepare for the future, I do so with this growth mindset as my framework. In school, my strengths are communication, creative thinking and leadership which is why I’m enrolled in AP government as well as enjoy my culinary class. My current GPA is 3.5 and in college, I am interested in studying business or liberal arts. I have also made sure I manage my time so that I can participate in extracurricular activities. When I was younger, I danced competitive hula for 6 years. In Hawaii, hula is a very important part of our culture. It is one way that we connect with our community and show reverence for what has been passed down to us through our ancestors. The rigors of becoming a strong hula dancer are where I developed the values and skills that now allow me to have success both on and off the volleyball court. Like hula did when I was younger, volleyball challenges me and allows me to develop skills that benefit me in sports, in school, and even in my personal relationships. It fills me with happiness every time I step onto the court and playing at the collegiate level has been a dream of mine since I started playing three years ago and I am committed to perfecting my skills to reach that goal.
As a Freshman in high school, I earned a place on the varsity volleyball team. I am a naturally left dominant, but have always played with my right on the court. As a varsity player, I have had opportunities to compete in state tournaments where I developed as a player by supporting my team with my strengths and skills, while also learning to accept and grow from every game, no matter the outcome. I believe developing as a player means I need to self assess and accept feedback whether a game went well or not. This mindset allows me to continuously grow on the volleyball court. My on-court personality reflects my positive attitude, teamwork, and dedication making me a valuable asset to any team. I believe my positive demeanor and my ability to adapt quickly adds to the supportive environment my teammates and I have built to succeed.
Other volleyball accomplishments include recently being recruited to play for Mauna Lani, an 18s club that is on the island of Oahu. This means that while continuing to keep up on my academics, my family obligations, and playing volleyball with my high school team, I also fly from the Big Island to Oahu every week. I also was able to spend the winter break of my Sophomore year training in New York where I worked on playing with my left hand and back court defense. I am an all around player. I am grateful that my family understands how important volleyball is to me and the sacrifices they make so that I can be the best player I can be.
I’m very excited for the future and playing in college. Most importantly, I'm excited to see what kind of player I become. I believe that I will continue to grow and shape into a strong player who is ready for the collegiate level of play. I'm thrilled about the journey ahead.
Mahalo,
Naiya Beymer
