Starting my sophomore year, I began to play against teams and people much older than me. I was a starter on my high school varsity team, and during my club season I played on the 17s team as a 16 year old. Now as my 17s season begins, I will be playing on the team for 18 year olds. I am driven by the competitiveness of the sport; it is one of the main reasons I love it, which is why I would enjoy playing at the collegiate level.
In 8th grade, I suffered a minor setback while competing on the top team for my age level at my club, Fusion 14 black. Towards the end of the season, I tore 2 ligaments in my right hand, my UCL and my scapholunate. We almost reached the point of surgery, and I couldn't finish my season. While I love cheering on my teammates, sitting on the sideline was a painful experience. Although I resented it in the moment, my injury helped me realize my desire to play college volleyball because it showed me how hard it is to live without the sport.
