Sarah Oberhelman '11 Recruiting Profile

I am a 5'11", 130 lb. athlete currently in my senior year of high school. My senior year I was awarded 1st team All-State, All-Metro Pre and Post Season, and played on the East Louisiana All-Star Team. My junior year I was awarded 1st team All-State and MVP at Ben Franklin High School, where I was captain my junior and senior years. With my club team, Krewe, I have gone to the '08 and '09 AAU nationals and USAV nationals the past three years. At the latter AAU nationals I was nominated for the All-Tournament team. I am extremely dedicated to volleyball and always strive to improve at practices. I compare myself with the best players I know, and expect that I am able to play at or exceed the level at which they play. More importantly, I love the sport and it is very important to me that I am able to continue playing in college. My main athletic goal in college is to have the chance to play by the time I am a sophomore in D1 or D3. I value education highly and hope to go to an athletically and academically challenging school. I have been looking at colleges in or near big cities, mostly in New England and along the east and west coasts. I plan on going into medicine, so I want a college with excellent premed and/or science programs. I realize it is ambitious to balance volleyball with the rigor of premed classes, but in high school I have been capable of balancing volleyball with challenging classes well. Volleyball and academics are my top two priorities, and I plan on keeping it that way in college.
