My name is Malani Martin. I first started playing volleyball in 3rd grade and has been my passion ever since. Over last few years of volleyball I have diversified myself in playing multiple positions. I think is what makes me stand out. In my first year of club volleyball, 2 years ago, at Maryland Juniors I was a setter, but was later switched to right-side, playing all around. The following season I played all-around as an outside and am continuing to do that this season and still practicing a little bit of setting. I work hard to be capable of playing a variety of positions. Furthermore, 2 out of 4 years of playing volleyball in middle school and for the last 3 years of my club experience I have been captain of my team. I try my best to be vocal and encouraging toward my team, despite any circumstances. I look forward to playing collegiate volleyball and finding a school to match me athletically and academically.
Spring 2022 Update:
Due to an ACL injury that occurred during my high school fall season 2021 (13-0), this club season has been spent recovering from surgery and rehabbing, working each and every day to get stronger and closer to being back on the court! I have been attending tournaments with my team to support them and stay involved in the game. My goal is be back on the court stronger and better than ever this Fall 2022!
Winter 2022 Update:
After battling my ACL injury from my sophomore year high school season, I'm back! I sat out the first 5 games of my junior year high school season and only played back row for the next two. After easing my way on to the court, I was able to play fully for the remainder of my season and helped lead my team to the IAAM Semifinals. Additionally, I received the IAAM All Conference Award and led my team in kills this past season with 95 and a kill percentage of .310. I had a team-high accuracy in serve receive of 2.4 out of 3 and finished with, 148 digs on the season, being second behind the libero. I'm still in physical therapy to further strengthen both legs and work on explosiveness with jumping. In November, I tried out and made Maryland Juniors Volleyball Club team, 17 Elite Black, where I am very excited to spend this next club season. I'm dedicated and more motivated than ever, to be back on the court playing the sport that I love, after my nearly 10 month hiatus. As club season has officially started, I'm hoping to learn and grow as a player and receive more exposure through upcoming tournaments.
