My goal in life for as long as I can remember has always been to do one thing: help others. After taking AP Biology sophomore year I realized that biology was going to be the way I could accomplish such a target. With advanced technology, innovative treatments, and dedicated researchers, I knew that becoming an oncologist was my calling.
An oncologist endures a hard line of work that involves making educated decisions for the lives of cancer patients, communicating and collaborating with research scientists, as well as problem solving in labs when new treatments don’t produce expected results. To be a successful oncologist I must be a well rounded individual who is strong both academically and socially. Volleyball has shaped me to acquire such characteristics.
My biggest asset on the court is my drive. When I play I want nothing more than to help my team. As a middle hitter I am often the last contact on the ball, and every time I make sure to do my job and finish the point. Knowing how hard my teammates worked to get the ball to me pushes me to do nothing less than win the point for my team, no matter what it takes.
When I play I enter a deep focus and determination that transfers off the court as well. I attack every obstacle with an unstoppable drive that pushes me to never shy away from a challenge, to make decisions, and to do everything I can to solve the problem.
I refuse to lose without a battle. This ambition within me that exists both at my school desk and on the volleyball court is exactly why I’d be a good candidate for your team and university. No matter the situation, the obstacle, the problem, you can always count on me to get the job done.
My drive allows me to lead by example and push my team and classmates to be the best they can be so we can collectively succeed. Personally, it has never been about the glory of the kill, but always about the teamwork that allowed me to finish the point.
