As long as I can remember, I have been playing volleyball. I began playing for a competitive travel club team nine years ago and was fortunate to make my middle school varsity team as a sixth grader and my high school varsity team as a freshman. As I look toward my junior year in high school at Riverdale Country School in New York City, my passion for volleyball only continues to grow. In addition to my competitive spirit, my love for the game centers on the true team nature of the sport. Cooperation, trust and chemistry are required on every point, creating a special bonding experience. Some of my closest friends are my volleyball teammates! Through volleyball, I have learned the value of sustained commitment and dedication and a recognition that I have a responsibility to my coaches and teammates – to something larger than myself. I believe I am a leader on my teams because of my positive attitude, my work ethic and because I support my teammates, win or lose. The sport has also honed my self-reliance and time management skills – whether studying between matches or in hotel lobbies during weekend tournaments, my schoolwork remains a priority.
As I continue to grow as a player and mature as an athlete (with the help of private coaching and volleyball camps), I am committed to continuing my volleyball journey at the collegiate level. I can truly say that my time with my teammates on the court are some of my most cherished experiences and I look forward to more!
This summer of 2023 I am focusing on a mix of volleyball and academics. I am excited that my team will be competing in the Girls Junior National Championships in Chicago in early July, after which, I will attend volleyball camp and then to Oxford University to study war and world history. My love for history is also taking me to an internship back home in New York City, researching turn of the century immigrants through archival materials. Then, before you know it, pre-season will begin in mid August for my high school's varsity team. I can't wait!
