Personal Statement

Hi!  My name is Ashley Latimer.  I am currently a junior attending Croton Harmon High School.  I've been playing high school volleyball since I was a freshman.  Last year I had the opportunity to play on the Downstate 16 Nationals Team.  This experienced opened my eyes to an entirely new level of volleyball.  I realized that there was so much more that I was capable of learning.  Since then I've been working on my skills through experience of playing the game at a high level.  I've also have learned many improvements and new things from coaches.  I love to play with people who have the same passion so that I am challenged to do better.  I am looking forward to my 17 Nationals Team's season.  We have a great group of girls and an amazing coach that is dedicated to the success of our team.

As I look forward to college, I realize that volleyball is a part of who I am and I would love the opportunity to continue to play competitively.  I also really enjoy the friendships that are made on a team because in past years, from all the teams I've played on, I've developed a wide network of friends.

I am interested in attending a well-known school in an urban environment that offers a variety of studies that include business, marketing, foreign language and art.  I prefer to be on the east coast, but I am open to checking out schools elsewhere.  I knew as a freshman in high school that I wanted to go to a good college.  I wanted to keep my options open, thus I have worked hard to keep my grades in the 90's.  Some of my favorite classes so far have been:  Physics, Algebra II & Trig, US History, English 10, Chinese, Spanish, Advanced Drawing & Painting and Photography.  I look forward to continuing to study some of these subjects in college.

I think it's really important to keep a balance life between school, sports, family and friends.  It's important for academics come first as academics are important to become a successful well educated adult.  However, staying healthy and physically fit are also important.  Volleyball is important to me because it gives me the opportunity to maintain a healthy life as well as be competitive and enjoy myself.  Another important part of life is giving back to your community.  I did this by being an active member of girl scouts.  I am proud that I achieved both my Silver and Gold Awards, which required me to develop projects that benefit my community.  The achievement's I made in Girls Scouts are equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award.    I am excited to start this new journey and I hope to continue to maintian a balanced life.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
