Hi! I’m Onoria Demarest! I’m 16 years old and a 2026 graduate. I’m currently going into my 4th year at John S. Burke Catholic High School/Academy . I previously had attended Minisink Valley. I’ve been playing volleyball on and off since 3rd grade but it became serious for me around 6th grade. Along with playing volleyball I also do basketball, track and flag football. In 9th grade, I was taking 3 honors classes (earth science, geometry, and English), and am a year ahead in math and science. I maintained an overall average of 97.4 at the end of the year including regents, finals and midterms. I did this while juggling 2 varsity level sports (volleyball and track), 1 JV(basketball), and 1 club team(volleyball). I’m also very active in my community. I attend food pantry’s, safe child events, and gleaning. Also, I’m apart of the Orange County Sherriff's Office Explorer program. Last year (2022) I was awarded the most athletic cadet award. I hope to keep up my good work in both sports and academics and am ready to achieve bigger goals this school year! In 10th grade, I continued working in my community and doing clubs and activities. I was taking 3 honors (algebra 2, chemistry and English) and 1 AP class (AP world) while playing multiple sports, working and continuing to become a better person.
During college, I wish to work hard in both academics and athletics. I am always told I always have energy and can brighten anyone's day up. I never get upset if we are loosing a game, I will just take that loss and learn from it. I always have a big smile on my face and I want to keep that there throughout my college experience and the rest of my life. I am a very hard worker and I aspire to keep challenging myself and becoming a better person throughout everyday.
In the 2022 season I was a freshman setter on varsity. This came with many responsibilities and challenges that I was ready to tackle. I was the starting setter. This was a huge accomplishment for me after having a rough club season the earlier year. We ended up 3rd in our section during the main season. During the section final, we beat the team that beat us 2x in the main season, taking the Section IX championship. The game was a long 5 sets with lots of good plays by both teams. For the first time since 2004, we won the section title. This past year, my sophomore season, I was again the starting setter on varsity! This year, we ended as division champions which was a huge accomplishment for each and every one of the girls.
