Layla Shipley '23 Recruiting Profile

Hello coaches! My name is Layla Shipley, I am a 2023 setter and outside but I've also got experience playing every position on the court. I believe that my versatility gives me the opportunity to succeed at the collegiate level and play in just about every system and environment. I learn and grasp concepts quickly both in the classroom and on the court. I am never satisfied and am continuously working to improve so every time I step on the court I am better than I was yesterday. I'm looking forward to taking on a more active leadership role this year on my club team this year. I feel like I've learned from some really great coaches and teammates and I am ready to step up to that challenge. Last club season I played up with the 18U team for the Lakeside volleyball club where we played in the highest division at all tournaments. We finished as the top team in our region. 

This high school season I needed to transition more to a outside hitting role in order to help my team be more successful and competitive. I was able to make first-team all conference and was also selected as a first-team all-star by our local paper. I loved taking on the challenge of being in a new position and helping my team get to the sectional semi-final game for the first time in more than a decade. 

I am a dedicated athlete and strong academically as well. In my junior year alone I successfully completed 3 college courses earning 9 college credits. I've successfully completed all 4 Microsoft Office Specialist proficiency exams. I just completed two Hudson Valley Community Courses over the summer, earning 6 more credits. And will be challenging myself my senior year by taking AP Macroeconomics and Spanish 5. I believe by taking my high school academic experience seriously and challenging myself with my coursework that I have the tools I need to be successful in a college academic setting. I look forward to discussing my potential future with your program!
