My name is Emelia Cruz and I have been playing volleyball for six years, and have been the team captain of my travel team for the past four. As a Middle Blocker, I’ve gained experience across the entire front row, and while my primary focus is blocking and attacking, I’ve also developed an understanding of passing. I have always embraced every opportunity while playing volleyball to grow my skills, whether through practice or games, and I find value in both wins and losses. I am constantly learning from each experience to improve my performance.
Being a leader on and off the court has always been important to me. I believe my sense of leadership and communication are two of my key strengths. I make a point to connect with my teammates, offering support and feedback whenever needed. I believe in creating a positive, collaborative atmosphere where everyone can push each other to be the best they can possibly be . I am not afraid to speak up when necessary, and I approach criticism as an opportunity to grow and better myself. I’ve learned that volleyball is about the team, not the individual. It is the contributions of every person on the court that make each others success possible.
Volleyball has taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. The intensity of the game is what drives my passion. Volleyball is a sport where every touch of the ball counts and every decision matters. I thrive in that environment, knowing that my contributions are part something larger than me. I believe my leadership experience, combined with my adaptability and willingness to accept challenges, has shaped me into a well-rounded player and a better teammate.
As I continue my volleyball journey, my goal is to play at the collegiate level at a school that will challenge and support me both academically and athletically. I plan to study Psychology for my undergraduate, with goals to eventually attend Law School and work as a Defense Lawyer, or in politics as a whole. I am committed to being the best student and athlete I can be, and I am excited for the opportunity to bring my dedication, leadership, and love for volleyball to the next level.
