I have a deep love for volleyball, and it always brings me joy to step on the court. I’ve been playing volleyball since I was in third grade, but started doing camps in kindergarten. I’ve always been on the shorter side, so I’ve had to prove myself continuously in order to make competitive teams. Over the years I’ve worked very hard to be a great teammate and leader. My teammates trust me to help them when they need it and know that I am there for them. They know that I can lead them and I work to make sure everyone's voices are heard. If someone is having a bad day or is not having a good game/practice, they know they can count on me to bring them up.
I think another of my strengths is my volleyball IQ and speed. I can read things on the court very well, and use my speed to react quickly. I can tell when someone is going to tip or where they’re going to swing, know who they’re going to set, who I should set, what plays to run when, who to serve to, and player habits. I’m very loud and talk a lot on the court because I think communication is so important, and it’s good to have my teammates know that I’m ready and to help them know what to look for and be confident.
Throughout my life, volleyball has been something that always has helped me through and something that always makes my day better. I love the feeling I get when I step on the court and the connections I have made with my teammates. I really hope I can make my dream come true and continue playing the sport I’m passionate about in college.
