Lorna Smith '16 Recruiting Profile

I have played volleyball since my freshman year of high school. I knew from the day I stepped on the court that volleyball was a sport I aspired to play at the collegiate level. I am aware that going to college for volleyball is a rare once in a lifetime opportunity and I am ready to take on the challenge. 
Leadership is a strength of mine. I was given the title captain my sophomore year on Junior Varsity. I am now the only senior on my Varsity volleyball team and also hold the captain position. I love being a team leader and encouraging my teammates to do their very best at every aspect of the game. I have quick movement and a high jump and have been told by a college volleyball coach I was one of the shortest people at her camp but covered more court than anybody there. I am extremely coachable and try to take in as much advice as I can. A quote I like to remember is "Every game is an opportunity to measure yourself against your own potential. -Bud Wilkinson" As a student athlete I strive to be one of the hardest working players and a current goal of mine is to become one of the hardest working recruits. 
I am not only a leader on the court but in the classroom as well. I am a former Beta Club vice president and president. I study hard and maintain a high GPA. I always like to stay a step ahead. While balancing year round volleyball and honors classes in school I'm also taking college classes and hope to graduate with 19 college credits.  
I want to attend college where I can push myself not only on the court but in the classroom also. I am a very easy person to please and I am open to all options. I want to eventually find the right college match for me at the highest competition level attainable. 
Along with volleyball going to church is another big priority of mine. I am a big part of my youth group and try to participate in as many youth events as possible. I help in the nursery once out of the month while also helping my mom with the 3-5 year olds. I want to be a role model for the younger kids as well as the older kids. I want them to know that their dreams are never too big to fulfill and to always remember to thank God for every opportunity that comes along.
