Growing up I had always aspired to be just like my sisters, the all-around students who could accomplish anything they ever wanted to. They encouraged, supported, and always believed in me growing up, while teaching me everything I needed to know about the world. Since then I have grown into my own self where I excel in the academic department on top of athletics. I have always found that athletics has made me a better academic student as I learned that procrastinating is just not the answer every time I do not want to do an assignment. Throughout my athletic career I have practically done every sport because my household was quite a competitive one, where I was always known as the little sister to most coaches. This made me persevere to work twice as hard, to grow out of the stigma as being the little sister, and I started to become Avery. This is where I fell in love with volleyball and I have went with it ever since.
Since then I have went on to make varsity in grade 9, making starter on top of winning MVP, and this continued into my grade 10 year. With my club team I have gone on to become starter every year, where I play every game as if it is my last. In the first tournament of the (2019/2020) season I had managed to break my foot, while having an allergic reaction, and even though it was not the smartest idea I had, I continued to play the rest of the bronze medal match because we were so close to finishing our long day and coming out with some hardware, and I was not about to let my team down. Looking back, this is one of my favourite memories playing volleyball because not only did we come out with that hardware, I came out a stronger and smarter player. On top of my volleyball schedule I am taking the IB diploma at Ashbury College as well as I am volunteering with ENGin to help teach students in Ukraine and with Empowering Youth in Business where I help mentor workshops and teach my own business classes.
I still believe that there is tremendous room for growth and improvement in both my athletic and academic life and I hope I can continue this at whatever program that lies ahead for me.
