My name is Julia Scher and I am a 17 year old, 5’11 Middle Blocker graduating in the class of 2021. This year will be my fourth year as a varsity volleyball athlete for South Eugene High School where I have recently made second team all conference as a Middle Blocker. I have also made the top club team for my age group for the past 3 years and most recently played for the Webfoot Juniors 18 Gold team.
I have maintained a 4.0 GPA as a french immersion student in the International Baccalaureate Programme throughout my high school career. I am also extremely passionate about women’s rights and social justice and I am the elected president of my school’s Feminist Union and Respect Education clubs which work to educate the community on healthy relationships, mental health and women’s/human rights. In addition, I am on the leadership board for my city’s chapter of the national organization PERIOD (now turning into our own organization to spread menstrual equity across the state), I am a 3 year senator in student government and I volunteer at a local organization on the Women’s Youth Advisory Council to create a safe space for girls. I was also a 2 year Varsity track hurdler, and this summer played sand volleyball for the Oregon Sand Volleyball Club and competed in their elite tournaments. I believe all of these experiences have made me a strong leader and demonstrate that I am hard working both on and off the court.
