This is my third year as a varsity starter and a lot has changed since I started high school in 2018. For my freshman and sophomore year, I was the starting setter at a 5A high school. I lead the region in aces and was an all-state nominee as a sophomore. It was a wonderful experience, but I made the decision after my sophomore season to transfer to a smaller private high school. The reason for this was that on December 21, 2018, my life changed forever. My father passed away of a massive heart attack. Then next year was very difficult for me, but volleyball was the one thing I could return to that made me feel normal. When I was on the court, everything was familiar an in a routine.
The year, at St. John's Christian Academy, I've had the opportunity to improve my leadership skills as well as broaden my experiences as a player. In addition to setting, I now have the opportunity to be an outside hitter. Since it is a smaller school, many of the players do not have a lot of volleyball experience so it has required me to step up into a leadership role on and off the court. I lead the team in kills, blocks and assists.
I set a goal at the beginning of the season that our team would go to the state championship tournament and my personal goal was to make All-State. My team received an invitation to play in the state tournament. It was their first trip in four years. In addition, I was named an All-Region player (top 12 in region) and an All-State player (top 6 in region). I was also invited to play in the All-Star North=South game. I'm honored to represent my school and am the first player to be invited in over four years.
My goal is to attend a four year college and eventually get a degree in nursing. I am dedicated and hard working. I am passionate about volleyball. I am a natural leader on the court. I have been playing high school volleyball for five years and am getting ready to start my sixth year in club volleyball. I have played all over the southeast in open level tournaments. I am versatile in that I am comfortable running a 6-2 or a 5-1. Although my primary position is a setter, I have the ability double as either an outside or right side hitter.
