Growing up, I participated in several different sports, although nothing has ever felt more natural to me than volleyball. I experienced love at first sight the minute I played in my first match, and my passion for the game has only gone up. After only a year and a half of playing, my work ethic and dedication brought me to the starting varsity libero/DS position as a freshman, and a State Runner-Up title. I owe my ability to take criticism and my communication skills to my freshmen year, as it wasn’t always easy being the underclassmen on a team with four-year varsity players.
Going into my sophomore year, I was ready to bring home more. Unfortunately, I suffered a season-ending elbow injury. I was heartbroken, but that didn’t stop me. I attended every practice and every match with a positive attitude, supporting my teammates to a State Championship from the sidelines. I gained a new perspective of what it means to be a teammate my sophomore season, and the lessons I learned will forever be applied in the sport.
Junior year approached and despite being healed and healthy, another obstacle was thrown my way. A setter was needed, and I decided to fill this role. I was scared as my first love was passing, but I was open minded and saw it as an opportunity. Switching positions turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it taught me how to embrace change, and how to be a more dynamic volleyball player. My team finished 6th at the state tournament, and I received the MVP award for the season.
I believe having varsity and club level experience in both passing and setting can be seen as a huge asset to a team, and I would be happy to fill either role at the next level.
Overall, I wouldn’t be the person I am today without volleyball. The sport has given me several life lessons and has developed vital character qualities within myself. With that being said, I am excited to bring the volleyball player, athlete, and person I am to the collegiate level. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me!
