My name is Cammy Curtis and volleyball has been a huge part of my life since the time I was 7. I have played a total of 8 years of club. I also had the opportunity to be starting varsity my sophomore year. Through my career I have played all positions extensively. I ultimately chose to pursue libero/ds for two reasons. First, obviously my height and secondly I absolutely love it. To me the greatest thing in the world is getting the perfect dig or back row attack knowing that all those painful hours in the gym and practice were worth it.
I used to get nervous before every practice and especially before every game. Then I had a coach tell me, “ Cammy, there is no failure you either win or you learn.” This completely changed my outlook both on volleyball and on life. From that moment on I have looked at every practice, scrimmage, game etc. as a way to get better and chance to improve. After every practice I remember one thing that I did well that I would like to emulate the next time, and two things that I can work on. Volleyball has also taught me how to pursue my faith deeper, fall back on my training, trust my teammates, respect my authority, and be a leader. These are lessons that I know will impact me the rest of my life even after my volleyball career is over.
I’m also a very hard worker academically. My goals are to graduate with my current 4.0 and never lose my love for learning. Just like every game or practice is a chance for me got get better at my sport, every class is an opportunity to expand my knowledge and walk out knowing something I didn’t know when I walked it. Currently I would like to study kinesiology. I am very excited to see what the future has in store for me both in and out of volleyball.
