Personal statement
I would love the opportunity to play college volleyball. Volleyball in my family started when my Mom, her cousins, and her aunts and uncles played backyard volleyball. It was a tradition to put up the net and bring out the volleyball when the whole family came over. Because of my mom’s love for volleyball, it caught my interest. I have always had a passion for volleyball since I was 7 years old. Now, I am in high school and that passion has increased greatly. Everyday in practice I encourage my teammates and myself to work hard. Because I invest a lot of time and effort into volleyball, I don’t want my volleyball career to end after my senior year of high school, but instead continue into college.
I would be a great asset as a student-athlete for the university. As a student my goal is to achieve all “A’s”. I push myself to study a little longer, or to go over that worksheet one more time, or to add more details in my answers. Whenever I come across a “B,” it brings me motivation to bring my grade up to an “A.” I also enjoy volunteering. Volunteering allows me to think of others and not just myself. Knowing that my service has helped something or someone else allows me to consider that I’m doing the right thing. As an athlete I strive to grow and expand my knowledge of volleyball. When Coach corrects me, I process the correction in my head so I can resolve the mistake by a good pass, a good serve, or a good read on the ball. Also, when I see a teammate have her head down because she made a mistake, I do my best to encourage her and tell her what she can work on to fix the mistake. Anytime I’m working out in the weight room I always complete my reps, because I know that when I do that last rep, it makes me a stronger person both physically and mentally.
Challenging myself is one of the things I like to do. When I give myself a challenge it helps me grow into a better version of myself. Not only does it help me grow but it is rewarding in the end. A couple of achievements that have been the result of the many challenges I faced during my seasons are the experience of making it to the state tournament and finishing one of my seasons as the state runner-up and having the most digs, according to "Max Preps," in the 2A division my Junior year.
My goal is to achieve a scholarship and play volleyball at the college level. I want the mindset I have acquired of continually striving to get better in sports, to continue throughout my life. My goal is to give my best effort into the things I do. For example; If my teacher announces that I have an upcoming test, then I aim to study a week beforehand. My goal for college is to work hard, become successful, and continue that success after I graduate.
