What details of your life have influenced who you are?
My mother was diagnosed with a severe case of Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was very young. I think that fact and the fact I am a twin are the two most influencing factors in my life. My mother's disease has forced me to "grow up" more quickly but having close siblings has shown me that the "family" is a "team sport."
When and how did you become interested in your sport?
My dad took me to a local college volleyball game when I was seven. That was the moment I decided volleyball was the sport wanted to pursue. My older sister played as well, so I began at the age of five but I started playing club immediately after that one game.
What have you learned about yourself through playing your sport?
Volleyball at the level I have been playing, especially the last several years on a highly skilled, very competitive team has taught me both humility as well as tenacity. I think the most important lesson I have learned through this sport is never allowing myself to get too high or too low because that affects not only me but my teammates as well.
What are your academic goals for high school and college?
I intend to finish my high school academic career in the top 25% of my class. I have a passion for kids and want to pursue a teaching degree to allow me to influence children who have not had the opportunities in life. I have an amazing family who has supported me, yet has not given me a "free ride" in achieving my academic and sport goals.
Have you had to overcome any obstacles to get to where you are?
The process of balancing family responsibilities, work, school, and volleyball have helped me be the person I am today. I have learned various skills to accomplish all my goals.
What unique characteristics or skills do you possess?
Getting along with people, being able to adapt to new circumstances, very coachable. I love to learn new ways of playing and executing the game. I believe that right is right and wrong is wrong. I am very willing to stand up for my beliefs. I come from a family structure which has kept me grounded in God's love and acceptance. I find myself drawn to the person on the team whose background has not been as nurturing and encouraging as mine to help them through their struggles.
