“Passion is a huge prerequisite to winning. It makes you willing to jump through hoops, go through all the ups and downs and everything in between to reach your goal” – Kerri Walsh Jennings.
This mindset is one that I try to encompass on a daily basis throughout my training. I use my fire and passion for the game of volleyball to push me as far as I can go, and then even farther. Kerri Walsh Jennings has been someone I have looked up to for a very long time, not only as a player, but also has a genuinely good person. I work as hard as I can every day, with the hopes that I can live up to and have the same passion as such an amazing player.
I focus each and everyday on improving my game and it has been this way a little over a decade. I have been playing volleyball since I was 6 years old and my passion for it has never waned or faltered. I have spent 3 years on club teams and participated in mini club prior to club. I have also been on the team at J. Frank Dobie High School all 3 years I have been enrolled, as well as Varsity my junior year. As a DS/Libero I am not 6 feet tall, but I make up for it in my passion and desire to always be better. I like to consider myself very hardworking and have been awarded the “Hustlin’ Horn” Award all 3 years I have been in my schools volleyball program, this award is given to one girl on the team who has exhibited great hustle and one who is always willing to give her all. I also received the honor of Academic All District for the 2019 season. I was also elected OffSeason Captain for the 2020 offseason, which basically is instead of leading only the Varsity team, I was the leader and role model for the 3 other teams during this time.
Not only am I hardworking on the court, but likewise am the same in the classroom. I am a straight A student, in all honors and advanced classes, with a 4.0 GPA and a 1320 on my first SAT. I am in the top 2% of my class and a part of the National Honor Society, I am constantly working to get better in volleyball, but my studies as well. When I am not on the court, I enjoy participating in my FIRST robotics team, the Robonauts. Being on this team fuels my passion for engineering, as well as being a leader. I am the leader of my subsystem and a voice of the team as a whole. In college I hope to work towards becoming an engineer and hopefully one day work with SpaceX or artificial intelligence.
