This year my High School Coach gave me the opportunity to play the libero and ds positions on our varsity team. I have always been an outside hitter, but I have been working toward this transition, since I hope to be recruited as a defensive specialist. So it was a special surprise to receive All District Honorable Mention for defensive specialist this season.
I have been playing with Houston Volleyball Academy since 2016 when I was 11 and they were a brand-new club (mostly known for their 30-year-old boys division). Initially I was definitely a hitter, but I started playing all the way around, and defense became a strong suit. This year my 17s team still needs me to play all the way around, which is a great way for me to keep all my skills sharp.
My strengths are passing, speed and reading the court. I am a very good teammate because I bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the team. I am very encouraging, and I love to socialize through the sport. I am also very dedicated and coaches say that I am very coachable. I love being captain of this team.
With all that is happening in the world, I think it is important to stay positive. I plan to stay focused on my school work and become a better volleyball player. My goal is to find a good fit college for myself, so I can thrive as both a student and an athlete.
