I started in sport at 5 years old when I was introduced to soccer. I played four years and enjoyed every single moment and I thought soccer would be it for me. But when I started seeing my sister play more and my dad explaining to me volleyball, then knew that was it for me. My dad and my sister had a huge role in me wanting to play volleyball, but I chose that I wanted to further it to college. It has always been so fun playing and getting to know all my teammates and coaches feels like a separate family from home. I was ten (playing U12) when I began playing with a club team, Areyto Volley Academy (AVA) Since that first season, I have played for travel / select teams in AVA (5 years) and most recently with Vienna Elite (1 year). Also, for the varsity team at my high school since my sophomore year. I want to continue to play in college…this is my passion.
Throughout the years, I have played two positions: Outside Hitter and Opposite. Playing these positions allowed me to hone my ability to control the ball both aggressively and passively. As a hitter, I never shy away from the challenge of ending a rally, especially under pressure plays. I pride myself on focusing and controlling the ball to keep it in the zone when playing all around including back row. My determination and relentlessness keep rallies going during defensive plays. I have always understood that one of the secrets to success is the ability to listen to those who mentor and coach me. My respect for them provides an added motivation to excel and make them proud. My growth and progress have relied on it. Additionally, I see my team’s motivation as an integral part of our success; therefore, I have always given special attention to boosting their esteem by cheering them on to achieve our goals as a team.
The discipline and focus that I have learned through volleyball has carried into my activities as a student. I am an active participant in the classroom, which helps me stay engaged and curious. I volunteer to help other students and do the best I can on every single task the teacher gives us; especially those with special needs or if English is their second language, since I am fully bilingual in written and spoken English and Spanish. Also, I am part of an English Reading Club to stay involved in academic and extracurricular activities. For me, success translates into doing what I love, and I am hoping to have the extraordinary opportunity to study Behavioral Science and play volleyball. I am steadfast on finding the perfect partnership with a university where I could receive a quality education and embrace my skills as a volleyball player. I cannot think of a better way to make the people that have given me so much support, proud.
