Personal Statement

Hi! I'm Rachel Smith, I'm a Junior at Deerfield High School, WI. I'm 5'6 and still growing, 115 lbs. Before I talk about my athletic accomplishments, I would like to put my academics achievements first. Its STUDENT-Athlete. I am an A-B student, I have a 3.822 as of now. I hope to improve/maintain that G.P.A throughout my High School Career. I have been on High Honor-Roll since freshman year. I take advanced math classes to help me get ready for college courses! Now on the athletic stand point, I have been on my school's Varsity volleyball team since freshman year as the back-up setter. This last fall ('09) season of my sophomore year I was the team's starting setter, leading my team to another Southern Trailways Conference Championship. I was voted 1st team all conference and The All Academic Team for WVCA. I led my team in both assists and aces. This September I was also voted Max Preps player of the week. I have been playing club since 6th grade and played some SWAT! Volleyball Leagues when I was younger. And if it counts for anything, I grew up becoming very familiar with the sport. Whether watching my sister play club or begging my dad to play with me in the gym hallways during down times. I think you could say I have a lot of experience with volleyball. In 6th-7th grade ('06-'07) I played with River City VBC. 8th-10th grade ('08-'10)I have been setting for Wisconsin Select VBC. I was voted by my teammates as team's captain all three years. Being in that position I feel I have been brought up as a good leader for my teammates. I'm a very energetic girl on and off the court and I get along great with my teammates/other girls. I have so much love for the sport! If I was put in a position where smart decisions needed to be made I would preform to the best to my abilities to get that point, whether on the first serve or on match point. "I play every point like game point" I have been dreaming of playing college ever since I was younger and I have so much passion for the sport I would do anything to get there. I am open for any kind of school. I would really like to stay around Wisconsin, (Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana region.) I come from a small school of about 50 kids per class, so size doesn't matter to me. I'm ready for anything! I haven't made a decision about which major I want to pursue but I do have some in mind. Some goals I have set for me in the long run is: to find a school somewhat close to home (any division!) by my junior year and becoming familiar with the coach and school. By my senior year I want to get some sort of financial help/scholarship if possible. And lastly, throughout my student career in high school and college I want to learn more things, which I think should be on the top of everyone's 'goals list'. If an athlete isn't ready to learn how can they advance and get even better for the next season. Constructive criticism goes a long way. Another would be to have the opportunity to be able to play and get some great wins on the court!
