Ever since the first day I ever held a Water Polo ball it became my biggest passion. When I started playing 6 years ago in 2013 I instantly fell in love. I had always loved the water and this sport was a way to challenge me and keep me in shape while also granting me the privilege of meeting people who I’d look up to for the rest of my life. I can proudly say that this sport has shaped me into a more motivated, organized and outgoing person. The sport has not only improved who I am as an athlete but who I am out of the pool, who I am as a person. I started out playing for a little club in my city that only consisted of 4 other girls. Those girls were anywhere from the ages of 13-18 and although we didn’t have a home team or many games to play, I learned so much through their experiences. It wasn’t till the 2014 Junior Olympic qualifiers in Seattle that I really got to experience what Water Polo really is. As a first year 11 year old playing at the u16 level I didn’t have a lot of play time. But experiencing the California dream really solidified my dream to one day play NCAA and work harder everyday to be better. Since then I have had incredible opportunities and experiences that I wouldn’t have had if I wasn’t involved with this sport. Just this past year I was recognized as an alternate for the long list of the u18/19 Junior Women’s National team; something I had been hoping for since that first day in Cali. That summer I also got the chance to travel down to New Zealand where I played teams from all over.
The biggest thing Water Polo has taught me is that there are always opportunities, through failure and success you grow and if you want it you’ve got to work for it. Although, when I’m not in the pool I am often out taking pictures and creating art; whether it’s drawing or painting. I love travelling with my grandpa, exploring new places and meeting new people. I also enjoy spending time with my close friends and finding ways to keep busy. I am always open to new ideas and when I find something I am passionate about it is hard to stay away. I would love to someday live on Vancouver Island studying Marine Biology and be close to my grandpa.
As as a student-athlete I am very passionate about maintaining good marks as well as improving throughout the sport. I would rather fail than give up, therefore I believe in new challenges and growth. I am persistent while also respectful and I enjoy creating new relationships with both teammates and coaches. I believe I can strive at the NCAA division as it has been my dream as long as I have been playing.
