Hi, my name is Cassie MacLaren. I came to water polo after competing in springboard and platform diving and have been playing water polo for 9 years starting with 3 years of developmental waterpolo and then high performance waterpolo for 6 years. I currently compete with Pacific Storm Waterpolo on their Senior NCL team, and I practice with Surrey Waterpolo. I play and practice with BC's Provincial Training Center and I have recentley been selected for Team BC in the 19U women category. I have also just started coaching for Surrey Waterpolo.
Last year I played and competed on two high performance teams: Surrey Waterpolo and Edmonton Tsunami, as well as the provincial team for Team Alberta. Last year I was a season-round starter for our 17U squad that earned silver at our Western Canadian championships and bronze at National championships. Prior to that I won silver and goal medals with my U14 squad at our regionals, as well as silver and gold for our summer Provincial team with Surrey Water Polo.
As long as I can remember, I have always loved water sports from when I competed in platform and springboard diving. I then switched to water polo where I instantly fell in love, because I wanted to be part of a team that trained and played together for a common goal. I have had the opportunity to play waterpolo in both Canada and the USA. My family goes down to Santa Barbara, CA, almost every year for spring break where I practice with local teams, and if the schedules line up, I play in games and tournaments when I am there. This summer, I had the opportunity to play in the 2022 Junior Olympics in San Jose with Channel Islands (Santa Barbara Premier Waterpolo Club); we placed fifth in the classic division for session two.
Although I love my other sports, waterpolo has always been my passion and is a sport I would like to pursue at college. I’m going into my junior year this coming September and will graduate in 2024. I currently have a 3.97 GPA and take Arts and Sciences and am looking forward to college where I am hoping to pursue a STEM discipline.
