When I started high school, my primary focus was on academics. However, when I started playing water polo my freshman year, I fell in love with the game and discovered that I had a true passion for it. Due to a goalie injury my freshman year, my coach asked me to step up to play goalie because I was said to be a true utility player. My willingness to take on a new position was the best decision I could have made. My passion for the game and for being a goalie has helped me find a great balance between academics and water polo. I strive to excel at both, maintaining over a 4.0 GPA while playing both club and varsity water polo and being the team captain for the varsity swim team as a junior.
I am very hardworking and a leader both inside and outside of the pool. I played for my club’s 18U team in Junior Olympics as a sophomore, just having turned 16. I recently transitioned to CHAWP (Chino Hills Area Water Polo Club) to help further develop my high school team and to advance my goalie skills. I can get out of the water and have a long reach, allowing me to make great blocks and I also play aggressively and I am not afraid to steal the ball. I have strong ball handling skills and an arm that allows me to accurately pass the ball the full length of the pool. I am very methodical and have an eye for the game, which has given me the ability to lead my teammates to play at their fullest potential. I am able to remain calm in high pressure situations, which is key to any goalie’s success. It is my ultimate goal to play water polo for a college that will challenge me both in water polo and academically.
