“Lefty!”. That’s how one ref in our summer league greets me before each game he officiates. He says I’m the one who sprints at the start, takes the ball, drives the ball and shoots left handed. Sounds so simple but there is hard work and focus behind it. It was my freshman year of high school that I tried out for water polo. I am a lifelong swimmer and water polo seemed to be a natural progression for sports in high school. My tryout day was the beginning of an amazing water polo journey of athletics, learning, teaching, wins, losses, sharing, giving, friendships and mentors that have positively shaped my high school years and honed my leadership skills. I have learned as much from losses than I have from wins. I have gained skills from more experienced players and shared knowledge with newer players. I’ve learned to maximize my strengths whether playing offense, defense and as the only left handed player in my program. My experience as a student athlete has been a way of life during my high school years.
My goal is to become a collegiate athlete and that’s just one aspect of my life. I am a daughter and the older sister to my adoptive brother and sister. Love! I regularly go to church and youth group. Faith! I have a 4.0+ GPA and serve in many student organizations at school and in my community. Dedicated! My coaches have honored me each season for working hard and serving as a role model. Teamwork!
I am many things to many people as a student athlete. I work to balance family and friends as well as school and sports. My values serve as my compass in school, sports and life. I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in all aspects of a competitive program at a distinguished college.
