I started playing water polo when I was 14. After my first practice I realized I wanted to play this sport for the rest of my life. Freshman year my team didn't win conference. The final game we had to play taught me a lot about who I was as a player. I was thrown into new positions I had never played before and learned to quickly adapt to help my team as much as I could. I quickly grew into a leadership position and sophomore year I was team captain. Being a captain allowed me to help my teammates whenever they needed it and I was able to help them grow as players by teaching them about the game, teaching them plays and helping them understand new drills.
Sophomore year I was pulled up to the varsity team and had to quickly learn the new dynamics of the team. I quickly learned new plays and learned to go with the flow of the new team. I feel that being on varsity helped me understand more of the game and pushed me to become a better player. The game speed, competitiveness and strategy is what really draws me into the sport. I love having to think ahead and be ready for whatever happens next.
I want to continue playing water polo at the collegiate level because I love everything about the sport and the camaraderie that comes with being on a team. I am a dedicated student with a 4.1 GPA and I have developed a steady balance between athletics and academics. I believe my drive, leadership, quick thinking and determination makes me an excellent candidate.
