My name is Kaitlyn Kasper, and I started playing water polo at the end of seventh grade. I was introduced to the sport by one of my friends. Her dad asked me to attend a middle school water polo clinic, and I did. After seeing me play that day, the coach asked me if I would like to play on the high school team. In Georgia, water polo is only a club sport at the high school level, so I have been playing against high school students for six years. I also have experience playing on and against high school co-ed teams.
After my first season, my family and I moved from metro-Atlanta to south Georgia. Thankfully, I was grandfathered into my old water polo team, but I have no team to practice with nearby. My parents continued to let me play, but we have to travel to Atlanta every weekend for me to compete. Because I do not have a team to practice with, I swim year round and do my best to get in a few water polo practices on my own. I try to make the best of my situation and am very thankful for my parents’ support.
