Aloha! My name is Skylar Webb and I live in Kaneohe on the island of Oahu. I grew up at the beach, and quickly fell in love with the water. I began playing water polo in 7th grade (5 years). In those 4 years I have played 2 years on the Le Jardin Intermediate team and three years on the Varsity Team as a 9th, 10th, and 11th grader. For all three years at Varsity I have been a starter. When I first began playing my school barely had enough girls to fill a team, so for my first two years we played with no subs and I developed a love for the sport. This is something that makes me stand out because I have developed extreme grit, perseverance and determination. I have grown into an essential team player and even as our team has grown I continue to be the only player on my team to play the entirety of every game. I am extremely resilient, work hard, and have the ambition to always get better. I help lift the morale of the team in and out of the pool, and can always be seen high fiving and cheering on my teammates. I have become an integral part of the team, and as a junior I am a team captain. I am extremely passionate about the sport I love, and share my passions with those around me.
Along with waterpolo I have swam since I was 7 years old. I have swam for Aulea Swim Club since I was 7 and have swam for the Le Jardin Varsity team for 3 years. However one of the most impactful experiences has been channel swimming. At the age of 10 I became the youngest person ever to swim the Au’Au channel from Maui to Lanai (approximately 9 miles). From then on my love for ocean swimming continued to grow and I have swam the Pailolo channel from Maui to Molokai (about 9 miles) and the Kolohe channel from Molokai to Lanai (approximately 10 miles). This past year I completed the Triple Channel Challenge where I swam 3 channels in three days, for a total of over 40 miles of swimming, and am now the youngest to have swam all three of these channels. Channel swimming has provided me the opportunity to develop mental toughness. Swimming for ten consecutive hours through waves, jellyfish, and currents has taught me to pushed past mental barriers and never give up. Channel swimming has served as one of the most valuable experiences in my life and taught me to persevere, set challenging goals, and strive to be the best version of myself.
Academics are also very important to me. This year I have challenged myself by taking multiple High Level IB courses. I have worked hard to maintain academic excellence and have held a 5.0 GPA for the first 5 semesters of my highschool career.
I am excited for the opportunity to compete and excel in both the pool and the classroom through the rest of my high school career. I would like to continue playing water polo in college competing at the highest level. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I believe I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
Mahalo and thank you for your interest!
