I am a 2M Defender/Utility for Foster High School in Richmond, Texas and the West Houston Viper Pigeons water polo club. I have been playing water polo for about 6 years now. I’ve been a starter on the Varsity water polo team each of my years at Foster. I’ve also been on the Varsity swimming team my three years there. My primary events are the 200 and 500 Freestyle and I am a regular on the 200/400 Free relay teams. My goal is to play for a D1/D2 school where my abilities will make the team and my team mates better.
My hope for college is to find a home that I can flourish as a student and athlete. I’m not completely sure what I want to study yet, so it would be great to be at a place where I could have some flexibility there. I’m leaning towards Psychology right now. I’m a good, hard working student and I want to find a place where I can build a real, solid foundation for my future.
The reason I’m a good candidate for any program and, I feel, what sets me apart from most recruits, is my defense. It has always been my strong point. Most of the coaches I have had over the years have put me on the other teams’ best player, especially if they are in the 2m area. Even if the player is a lot bigger than me. When I started in water polo, the Viper Pigeons didn’t have many girls in my age group, so I spent a lot of time playing against the boys, so I guess it helped gear my mentality to not back off from the big girls. I might be weird, but I actually enjoy it when things get a bit rough.
My Falcons team was fortunate enough to win State my freshman year and afterwards my Coach told me I was the missing piece on that team because of my defense. At the time, I was a bit confused because I didn’t get any recognition at Regionals or State like a lot of the other girls did. He told me most awards are geared towards offensive statistics but he felt I was the best defender in Texas, even as a freshman. My goals are to keep grinding and work to get my offense better.
With a new high school Coach last year came not only a change in style but a change in my role on the team. Our new coach wanted me to become more of a "coach in the water" because we graduated so many from before. Now I tend to "run" things on defense and offense for the team. Its a challenge but it is helping me grow my understanding of the game more. I'm proud of the fact that even on a depleted team(we only had 8 girls) we still made it to the quarterfinals in State this past year. With team growth, my hope is to go farther this next spring.
Club-wise I've been blessed to play with a really great group of girls on the Viper Pigeons. We've always done well and it has accumulated to a gold medal at this years JO's Session 3 in Dallas. Whatever happens moving forward this year, being on a State Championship team and a Gold medal JO team calls for a pretty good high school career.
I have also been on the Southwest Zone ODP teams for 6 years now. I played the SWZ Red Youth team for the Southern Regional Championships. I really enjoy the chance to play top players from other parts of the country.
