As my freshman year volleyball season began to die down and winter approached, I was still determining what my winter sport would be. A week before winter sports tryouts a menacing senior guy approached me and asked how much I weighed. At the time I thought he was strange, but little did I know that he would be my captain, mentor, and brother for the next three months and the rest of my freshman year. Wrestling has instilled an almost inhumane discipline in me and has already taught me many lessons that I carry with me through situations that stem far beyond wrestling. I love wrestling. It is a sports game, one of the oldest Olympic games in history. Wrestling is so fun and I find lots of joy in competing and especially winning. I have always been a competitive person and I had only ever competed in full team sports so when I started wrestling I realized that I could not blame a teammate for a bad shot I took and that on the mat I am fully responsible for the outcome of my match. At dual meets, however, my match outcome can win points for my team, or lose points. This aspect of wrestling has taught me to take full responsibility for my actions on and off the mat and make decisions that reflect my character. I am the only girl on my team but that has never truly mattered to me. I love my team, they are all big brothers to me, they all support and love me as I do them, and they have taught me what it means to be strong and resistant. My passion for this sport is not unique to wrestling, it also applies to my academics. I have competed in Debate as well as Model UN throughout elementary, middle school, and high school. I have always had a great interest in politics and global issues, and my competitive nature has aided me in pursuing this passion.
I would love to be a participant in the ongoing growth of women's collegiate wrestling. I am dedicated to working toward success through a fitting and supportive program, and I would love to be a part of a team that will help me grow not only in my wrestling career but my character.
