I first decided to start wrestling my freshman year. I was unsure at the time if it would be a good idea to join, so I flipped a coin and that coin flip decided i should start wrestling. That was the best coin flip and decision of my entire life. My first year I was unable to participate due to the fact that I am a girl, and I was on an all boys team. My Athletic Director did not want me to wrestle, so my coaches snuck me into practices so I could still participate. My first practice when I finally got to practice on the mat, I knew this was the sport for me. I practiced hard during the season, but shortly after the season ended, I sustained a serious knee injury. Despite all the challenges, I trained hard to get stronger so I could finally wrestle. My sophomore year, I was finally granted permission to participate. All of my hard work was starting to pay off. I started off the season slow, but soon I started winning important matches. At sectionals that year, I upsetted a state qualifier to place 4th at sectionals. That summer I continued to train and go to camps to get better. My Junior year I went 17-10 and placed 3rd at sectionals, and was an alternate for states. Now I am trying to bring the sport to my school by starting a girls wrestling team. This sport has changed my life and I would love to continue on to the next level.
