My name is Manuel Martir, I also go by Manny. My passion for wrestling started in 7th grade when I joined a wrestling club to help improve my jiu-jitsu skills. I started a little late compared to most of my competition but I was able to catch on fairly quickly. Growing up I always thought I would go on to college and play football until wrestling entered my life. In my freshman year, I was able to do both sports but quickly learned that if I wanted to compete at a high level I needed to devote myself solely to wrestling. I didn't mind as I wanted to spend all of my free time learning and soaking in everything I could about the sport.
I pride myself on being coachable and being one of the hardest-working people on our team. I consider myself a leader as I try to lead by example in the way that I carry myself on and off the mat as well as giving my all when I am competing. I am also always willing to put in extra mat time or help anyone who wants to get some extra work in. I strive hard to push myself past my limit both mentally and physically. As it will be something that I will have to do not only on the mat but in the classroom.
My GPA was a little shakey during my first few years due to COVID-19, my Coach Passing and not knowing that I had a learning disability. I always remediated the classes I didn't do so well in. Now that I figured out that I have dyslexia I am able to learn based on ways that work for my brain and this has helped me a lot.
I am looking for a school where I can push myself not only on the mat but in the classroom as well. I want a place where I can form a brotherhood and we can feed off each other's competitiveness. I want to grow and compete at the highest levels. I know that people say that you are supposed to compete for yourself, but I compete for my village. I can't wait to add my new team and coaches to that village.
