I feel that I have come very far in my first year of wrestling. I outcompeted people who have been wrestling much longer than I have. In part I attribute this to the attention and direction I have been getting from my coaches, and I also attribute this to the athleticism I bring to the mat. Being part of a team that cares about the sport and each other has had positive effects on my development as a wrestler, with coaches instilling the belief and the confidence that I could make it far. I found wrestling to be a fantastic sport because it allows me to work hard for a cause, and I get out of it what I put into it. In comparison to other sports I've played, like football, wrestling allows your individual effort to take you much further, no matter the work ethic of your team. The conditioning and physical fitness is what originally brought me into wrestling, and it provides me with great satisfaction when I feel like I am able to perform well physically.
One of the most important things I've learned in any sport was that if I mess up, I'd better do it quickly, with full effort, and make it look like it was on purpose. Wrestling allows me to approach a unique but similar problem with a different solution each time, and, just like in academics, that is what I have the most success with.
