I have been wrestling since I was in the first grade and I absolutely love the sport. When it came time to entering high school, I was torn between switching to a school that had a wrestling program or staying at the Christian school I was already attending. I chose to stay at the school, forgo wrestling and just play other sports. It broke my heart but I figured God had a plan. There was a school administrator that knew my passion for wrestling and the school officially started “a wrestling team” so that I could continue to wrestle. My dad stepped in as coach, we found a team that was willing to let me practice with them, and my dad and I traveled to tournaments every weekend to compete.
I spent the first two years wrestling and playing football. I was fairly competitive and took 3rd & 2nd in CIF my Freshman and Sophomore years but didn’t place at Masters. My Sophomore year I was 1 match away from placing at Masters, and it was at that point I decided to focus on wrestling.
My Junior year we faced our next major challenge, as I was getting better, I started beating the varsity guys I was training with (they weren’t on “my team” so I would occasionally run into them at tournaments). This made things awkward in the room and relegated me to training with B-team or JV guys. I am very grateful for the initial opportunity to train with the other school, but I just wasn’t getting to my best. Half way through the season, my dad and I decided to go-it-alone. It started out with a 10 x 10 mat in my driveway. Eventually my dad found some larger mats, we cleared out a room at my high school, got a couple coaches to help, and started training hard. For the first time in my wrestling career I was getting consistent, focused coaching at a high level, and it showed. I finished my Junior year as CIF Champion, recipient of the Most Outstanding Wrestler award, 2nd at Masters and top 16 in CA a 170. And I beat several higher ranked guys along the way.
I'm looking forward to my senior year of high school and being on a college wrestling team. I know that I can compete and contribute to any team at any level. I am a hard worker and a natural leader, please look at the rest of my profile. Academically, I am looking to be challenged like I am on the mat. I'm looking for the right fit for me of college wrestling and academic excellence.
