In 6th grade and 7th grade I tried out for middle school basketball but I got cut both years. After getting cut for the second time, my parents said I had to do something because I wasn't going to sit around and do nothing all winter. My little brother wrestled so they made me try wrestling for one season. My weight class that year was 124 but I lost the wrestle off each week to a kid who had been in youth wrestling since he was small. Sometimes I got to wrestle up a weight class or I got an exhibition match. I found that even though I could not beat the kid who was 124, I closed the gap each week. I also figured out that the sport I refused to try until I did not have choice, was now my favorite sport of all.
Wrestling is a sport in which small town politics, coach's favorites and whose parents donated cannot play a role. Whether I win or lose, which wrestler is better and who should start is not up for interpretation, I never stood out when I was younger as a great athlete but I never let it bother me. I knew that there would come a time that I would surpass those around me and it would be when it mattered most. That time is not quite here yet but I can see it in the distance. Unlike the other sports I play, the improvement I make each season is indisputable.
My work ethic, good coaching and having great partners are how I've gotten to where I am now. My work ethic, good morals, teachers and parents that care are what makes me a great student in school. My parents raised me believing from the beginning that college was an expected part of my education and I do not disagree. My TAP results named me a musketeer, the helpful athlete and the description could not be more perfect. So if you are looking for a musketeer with crazy work ethic, I'm your guy!
